How to use it
- Press Start camera and allow camera access when the browser asks.
- If the laptop has more than one camera (front, infrared, external), pick it from the list.
- Check the image, then press Stop.
What to look for
- Sharp image: text held up to the camera should be readable. Blur or a hazy spot can mean a scratched lens or moisture.
- Natural colors and no dark or dead areas.
- Camera light turns on while the camera runs. If it doesn't, the LED is broken.
- Privacy shutter or switch, if the laptop has one, opens and closes properly.
- Resolution matches what the seller advertised: 1280 × 720 is 720p, 1920 × 1080 is 1080p.
Questions
It says NotAllowedError
Camera access was refused. Click the camera icon in the address bar, allow it, and try again. On Windows, also check Settings → Privacy & security → Camera.
It says NotReadableError, or the image is black
Another app (Teams, Zoom, Discord) is using the camera, or a privacy shutter, switch or Fn key has turned it off. Close the other apps and check the shutter.
No camera found
Windows doesn't see a camera at all: the driver is missing, it's disabled in the BIOS or Device Manager, or the camera is disconnected inside. On a used laptop, ask the seller before you pay.
